I didn't expect much from Big Bass Catch. A fishing game with a big cartoon bass on the icon isn't usually where I go looking for something to write about. But it's ended up as the game the whole team opens between tasks, and it's worth explaining why.

The genius is in the timing. You swipe to cast, wait for a bite, then hold to reel — and that reel-in bar has just enough give that a careless yank snaps the line and you lose the fish. That tiny risk makes every catch feel earned. Landing a stubborn one after a near-miss is a small hit of satisfaction that keeps you tapping 'one more cast'.

There's a light sense of progression too. New fishing spots unlock as you go, each with its own fish and its own rhythm to learn. Nothing about it is complicated, but it never feels empty either. My tip: don't hold the reel button flat out. Ease off when the line tension spikes and you'll land far more of the big ones.

It's not a game that will eat your evenings, and it doesn't try to be. It's a calm, one-thumb thing you dip into and leave feeling slightly better. For that job, it's close to perfect.
