Games for When You Just Want to Switch Off

There's a whole category of games I think of as 'wind-down' games. No timers, no leaderboards breathing down your neck, no reason to hurry. After a long day these are what I actually reach for, and I think they're underrated.

Hollow Lantern is the perfect example. It's an exploration adventure with no combat, just you and a lantern moving through a quiet ruined world. The tension of keeping your light alive gives it purpose, but it never gets stressful. Play it in a dark room with headphones and it becomes almost meditative.

Puzzle games work here too, as long as they drop the clock. Tangle Tower Puzzles lets you sit and plan for as long as you like, which turns it from a stress test into a nice mental warm-down.

The common thread is that these games trust you to set your own pace. No push notifications, no fear of missing out. Just something to occupy your hands and quiet your head.
